Reusable Drain Guard Details: Standard Model and Curb Style Model

The heavy-duty reusable catch basin filter bags are economical stormwater management options for retaining sediment on construction sites. Made with high strength woven polypropylene material, this catch basin filter bag has a capacity of up to 500 lbs. For capturing sediment and silt, the reusable drain guard is a great choice. However, the catch basin filter bags will not hold oil and hydrocarbons as they are made with polypropylene material and not oil absorbing geotextile material. The reusable drain guard is an economical choice for construction sites as the catch basin sediment bags can be cleaned out and properly disposed of and reused. Catch basin sediment bags with deep accumulation pockets of 36" require less maintenance and emptying.

The reusable drain guard comes in a curb style for stormwater pollution control in combination storm drains. The curb style of the reusable drain guard is similar to the standard model, but features a design that makes it suitable for combination storm drains. The curb style weighing more than the standard model. The reusable drain guard is an economical choice for construction sites as the catch basin sediment bags can be cleaned out and properly disposed of and reused. Catch basin sediment bags with deep accumulation pockets of 36" require less maintenance and emptying.

Catch Basin Sediment Control Bags Installation

The reusable drain guards have a three-step installation process and a 6-step removal process. Make sure that the catch basin sediment bag flaps are outside the basin, flat, and held in place by the grate. The removal flap pockets should be held down by soil. Once this is accomplished, the reusable drain guard will be out of sight and ready to catch silt and sediment. For the removal of catch basin filter bags, first remove the soil used to cover and hold down the removal flap pockets. If not already inserted, insert the rebar through the pockets. Next remove the storm drain grate. Catch basin sediment bags will then be removed through the rebars with available equipment. Move the full reusable drain guard to the ground for emptying.

At a glance, here is the Catch Basin Sediment Bag installation instructions:

  • 1. Remove the Storm Drain Grate
  • 2. Install the Reusable Catch Basin Sediment Bag inside the storm drain, making sure the emptying straps are laid flat outside the basin and held in place by the drain grate.
  • 3. Replace the storm drain grate, making sure the flap pockets and emptying straps are secured during installation and do not fall into the catch basin.

Sediment Bags for Catch Basins Frequently Asked Questions

The ability of your storm drain gate to hold a full capacity reusable drain guard will be dependent on your specific drain grate, its design, size, and weight. For added reinforcement when using your catch basin sediment bags, rebar can be inserted into the flaps. When you remove the reusable drain guard this rebar will be necessary.

The reusable catch basin sediment bag is not made to absorb oil and hydrocarbons because of its heavy duty materials. These heavy-duty materials that make up the catch basin sediment control filter bag allow it to have a high capacity and durability for silt and sediment on construction sites for stormwater management.

The main attraction of the Ultra Reusable Drain Guard is its ability to hold an incredible amount of sediment and silt. Because of its ability to do this, it needs to be made with polypropylene material to make it very strong and heavy duty. This polypropylene material does not have oil absorbing capabilities. However, we carry a variety of different drain guards that absorb oil and hydrocarbons. For more information, see our Catch Basin Filter Options overview.
