Ultra Drain Guard Plus Details
While combination drains that feature both a storm drain grate and a curb inlet are sometimes tricky to protect in a SWPPP, the Ultra-Drain Guard Plus protects them effortlessly. The heavy duty tension rods included with the product secure the drain guard inside the curb inlet, stopping sediment, debris, and filtering oil before it reaches the waterways. Ultra-Filter-Tex material removes oil and hydrocarbons fast and effectively. The Ultra Drain guard Plus Oil & Sediment, Curb Insert Model fits grate sizes up to 40"x40" and curb inlets up to 60" wide. The containment capacity of the largest Ultra Drain Guard Plus is 1.38 gallons or oil and hydrocarbons and up to 40 pounds of sediment.
For this particular storm drain guard you will need to lift the grate out of the storm drain for installation and servicing. Luckily, we carry an array of storm drain grate lifters. From the Grate Hook to the Grate Lifter, you can easily remove the grate for the drain guard installation.

Included with the Ultra Drain Guard Plus are the tension rods that hold the storm drain curb inlet filter in place. No other parts or hardware is needed to install the curb inlet filter. However, you will need to lift the storm drain grate, and we do carry several products (Grate Hook and Grate Lifter) that help you do that quicky and easily.
There's no definitive answer to when a Ultra Drain Guard is past its prime and should be replaced. There are certain drain guards all over the US that have been working successfully for over a year. However, the amount of rainfall and contaminants you expose the drain guard to will determine how long it will last and be effective. Under most circumstances, the Ultra Drain Guard Plus can be reused, as long as the only thing captured by it is sediment and debris. If the drain guard is saturated with oil and hydrocarbons, it cannot be reused and must be disposed of according to local regulations.
